Why choose ScanVT rather than doing it yourself?

Yes—you can scan your own photos and documents. But the process is often tedious, confusing, and the results can be disappointing. The goal is to digitize once, and do it right—using high-quality equipment and the proper settings to capture every detail. Nothing is more disappointing than enlarging a cherished photo only to see blurry pixels rather than precious details.

At ScanVT, we use professional tools and expertise to ensure your family history, business records, and treasures are preserved with clarity and care. Future generations will thank you for keeping your legacy safe, shareable, and beautiful for years to come. If you’d like a helping hand, ScanVT is here for you.

Comparing options?  Here's how ScanVT stands apart:

Local:

ScanVT is a local, person-to-person business you can trust.

We understand how nerve-wracking it can be to send your most treasured, irreplaceable possessions through the mail or other courier. Most of our clients bring their items directly to us in Bethel, or we arrange secure pick-up and delivery. If you’re farther away, we’ll work with you to meet at a convenient halfway point. With ScanVT, your memories stay close, safe, and cared for every step of the way.

Quality:

ScanVT combines professional equipment with personal care to deliver the highest-quality digital images.

Our i2S Quartz A2 HD overhead scanner—unique in Vermont—is ideal for fragile books, fine art, newspapers, blueprints, and framed photos, with a generous scanning area of 24.8" x 43.3". For smaller photos, slides, and negatives, we use the Creo iQsmart flatbed scanner, trusted by professional image conservationists worldwide. Its 12" x 18" bed can capture up to 40 framed slides at once with stunning detail.

Your items are never fed through automated machines. The Quartz provides safe, non-contact scanning, while the Creo’s flatbed ensures gentle handling of each piece. After scanning, we carefully clean images to remove dust, restore color when needed, and complete final cropping and inspection. At your request, we can also add keywords, titles, and captions—making your digital archive both beautiful and easy to navigate.

Formats that will stand the test of time:

At ScanVT, your originals are always preserved.
We use a non-destructive workflow, meaning the initial scan remains untouched while all adjustments are made to separate copies. This ensures you’ll always have access to the original “master” file. It’s one way we help future-proof your digital archive—because technology is always evolving.

For instance, some software today can attempt to sharpen out-of-focus images, though with limited success. As tools improve, having a master file with all the original data means you can revisit those images and take advantage of future breakthroughs without losing a single detail.

Every project includes both master and ready-to-use files.
Your originals are scanned in TIFF format, which preserves the highest level of detail. After editing, we export a JPEG version—a smaller, more convenient file that’s easy to use for sharing, printing, or everyday access. You’ll receive both the master TIFF and the JPEG, so you have flexibility now and for the future. And if you ever need a different size or format, just let us know—we’ll be glad to help.

Creativity:

ScanVT offers a unique service called “multi-image scans.”
This allows multiple related images to be combined into a single, easy-to-view file. It’s perfect for capturing the front and back of a photo or postcard, an envelope and its corresponding letter, or a multi-page document—keeping everything organized and connected in one convenient image.  See a sample

Contact sheets:

Every project includes complimentary contact sheets.
These sheets display thumbnail images in a grid with their file names, making it easy to browse and locate photos—especially if you don’t use keywords. They’re a simple, convenient way to view your collection. See a sample

Cloud Storage:

Enjoy one year of complimentary cloud storage for your JPEG files.
You’ll receive a shareable link, making it easy and convenient to share your photos and documents with friends and family.

Flexible organization options:

ScanVT makes it easy to organize your files exactly the way you want—at no extra charge. Whether you’d like your images kept in a specific order or arranged into custom folders, we’ll create a system that works perfectly for you.

Price:

ScanVT is not just a business, it is a labor of love.

We take pride in helping you preserve your family history, handling every photo, document, and keepsake with care. Our goal is to deliver top-quality results at a fair price, so you can protect your legacy without compromise. Compare our services, and you’ll see the value and attention we bring to every project.

Project timelines:

Turnaround times vary based on the size of the project—from a single day for small jobs to several months for very large projects. For bigger jobs, we provide regular updates and sample images so you can follow the progress every step of the way.
